Instructions

Step 1: Layering

  1. Peel and slice crossways about 3 or 4 medium potatoes.
  2. Arrange the sliced potatoes in alternate layers with salt, pepper, grated cheese, and, if desired, grated onion in a casserole dish.
  3. Finish with a final topping layer of grated cheese.

Step 2: Baking

  1. Pour enough milk into the dish so it comes up to about 1 inch from the top.
  2. Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes to an hour until the potatoes are tender and the top is bubbly and golden brown.

💡 Make-Ahead & Storage: Assemble the dish a few hours ahead and keep refrigerated; add milk just before baking.
