Instructions

Step 1: Brown the Meat and Aromatics

  1. In a large skillet, heat 1/2 cup olive oil or butter over medium heat.
  2. Add 1/3 cup sliced onion, 1 clove chopped garlic, 1/2 cup chopped green pepper, 1/2 cup mushrooms, and 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef. Season with 1 tsp. salt.
  3. Cook until the ground beef is thoroughly browned and the vegetables are tender.

Step 2: Simmer the Sauce

  1. Add 2 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste and 1 (No. 2) can tomatoes to the skillet.
  2. Cook and simmer for 40 to 60 minutes, adding a little water if necessary to keep the sauce from sticking or becoming too thick.
  3. Stir in 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce and continue to cook for another 15 to 20 minutes until the sauce is rich and deeply flavorful.

Step 3: Cook the Pasta & Serve

  1. While the sauce finishes simmering, cook 10 oz. spaghetti in a large pot of boiling salted water according to package directions until al dente.
  2. Drain the spaghetti in a colander and serve hot, topped generously with the meat sauce.

💡 Make-Ahead & Storage: The meat sauce can be made 1-2 days in advance and stored in the refrigerator; the flavor improves as it sits. Reheat gently on the stovetop before serving over freshly cooked spaghetti.
