Instructions

Step 1: Season and Sauté

  1. Sprinkle the 1 (1 1/2 lb) veal steak with 1/2 t salt and 1/2 t pepper.
  2. Heat the 1 T salad oil in a large skillet and sauté the 1 (1 1/2 lb) veal steak until browned.

Step 2: Simmer the Veal

  1. Spread the 1 1/2 t bottled garlic spread over the top of the 1 (1 1/2 lb) veal steak.
  2. Add 2 T water to the skillet, cover tightly, and simmer over low heat for 45 minutes until the 1 (1 1/2 lb) veal steak is fork-tender.

Step 3: Prepare the Sauce and Finish

  1. Uncover the 1 (1 1/2 lb) veal steak, pour off the drippings into a measuring cup, and add enough water to make 2/3 c of liquid; return this liquid to the skillet.
  2. Add the 1 c cooked ham cubes and 2 c fresh mushrooms to the skillet, and cook for 5 minutes, turning occasionally until heated through.
  3. Remove the 1 (1 1/2 lb) veal steak to a heated platter.
  4. Add the 1 T lemon juice to the mixture remaining in the skillet, spoon the sauce mixture over the 1 (1 1/2 lb) veal steak, and sprinkle with the 1 t grated lemon peel.

💡 Make-Ahead & Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop over low heat.
