Instructions

Step 1: Mixing and Baking

  1. Cream together the 2 cups brown sugar and 3/4 cup lard until smooth.
  2. Beat in the 3 eggs and add the 6 tablespoons sweet milk, stirring well.
  3. Dissolve the 2 teaspoons soda in a small amount of hot water and mix into the batter.
  4. Stir in the 1 1/2 cups raisins, 3 1/2 cups flour, 2 1/2 cups oatmeal, 1 pinch salt, 1 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon until a dough forms.
  5. Drop spoonfuls onto a greased baking sheet and bake until golden brown and set in the center.
