Instructions
Step 1: Prep and Cream
- Mix 1 1/4 cups chopped dates and 1 cup hot water together and set aside to cool.
- In a separate bowl, cream 3/4 cup butter and 1 cup sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Beat in 2 eggs to the creamed mixture.
Step 2: Combine and Bake
- Sift together 2 cups sifted flour, 1 tsp baking soda, and 1/2 tsp salt; add to the creamed mixture alternately with the cooled date mixture.
- Stir in 1 tsp vanilla extract and 1/2 cup chocolate chips (save some for topping).
- Spread the batter evenly in a 9x13 pan.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup chocolate chips and 1/2 cup chopped nuts over the top.
- Bake at 350°F for about 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
