Instructions

Step 1: Prep and Cream

  1. Mix 1 1/4 cups chopped dates and 1 cup hot water together and set aside to cool.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream 3/4 cup butter and 1 cup sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in 2 eggs to the creamed mixture.

Step 2: Combine and Bake

  1. Sift together 2 cups sifted flour, 1 tsp baking soda, and 1/2 tsp salt; add to the creamed mixture alternately with the cooled date mixture.
  2. Stir in 1 tsp vanilla extract and 1/2 cup chocolate chips (save some for topping).
  3. Spread the batter evenly in a 9x13 pan.
  4. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup chocolate chips and 1/2 cup chopped nuts over the top.
  5. Bake at 350°F for about 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
