Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough and Filling
- In a mixing bowl, combine the 4 cups biscuit baking mix, 1/2 cup melted oleo, and 1 cup milk. Mix thoroughly, then cover and refrigerate for 1/2 hour.
- Meanwhile, mix the 1 lb hot pork sausage, 1 lb regular pork sausage, and 1 1/2 cups chopped green chilies together in a separate bowl. Let the mixture stand to reach room temperature.
Step 2: Assemble and Freeze
- Divide the chilled dough in half. Roll out each piece into a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread half of the sausage and chili mixture completely and evenly over each piece of dough.
- Roll up each piece tightly, jelly-roll style. Wrap securely in plastic wrap and freeze for exactly 1 hour.
- Remove from the freezer and slice into rounds about 1/3 inch thick. Freeze the slices until ready to use.
Step 3: Baking
- Preheat your oven to 400°F.
- Place the frozen slices onto a cookie sheet and bake for 20 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and the sausage is cooked through and sizzling.
💡 Make-Ahead & Storage: These whirls are designed to be frozen after slicing. Keep them in an airtight container in the freezer, then bake directly from frozen at 400°F for 20 minutes.
