Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Base and Sauce

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a casserole dish.
  2. Thaw the 2 packages chopped broccoli and squeeze out as much excess water as possible using a clean towel.
  3. In a saucepan, sauté the 1/4 cup chopped onion in 4 tablespoons of butter until tender.
  4. Stir in the 2 teaspoons flour to form a paste. Gradually whisk in the 1/2 cup water to create a smooth sauce, and cook until thickened.
  5. Add the 1 jar Cheez Whiz to the saucepan and stir over low heat until completely melted and smooth.

Step 2: Assemble and Bake

  1. In a large bowl, combine the well-drained broccoli with the prepared cheese sauce. Stir in the 3 well-beaten eggs until fully incorporated.
  2. Pour the entire mixture into the greased casserole dish.
  3. Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and toss them with the 1/2 cup cracker crumbs until moistened.
  4. Sprinkle the buttered crumbs evenly over the top of the casserole.
  5. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes at 350°F, or until the casserole is set in the center and the topping is golden brown and fragrant.

💡 Make-Ahead & Storage: Assemble the casserole up to 24 hours in advance, cover, and refrigerate before adding the cracker crumb topping just prior to baking.
