Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Cranberries
- In a pot, combine 1 package cranberries, 2 cups water, and 2 cups sugar. Cook for at least one-half hour until all the berries burst and the mixture becomes jammy and thick.
- Ten minutes before the cranberries are done cooking, stir in the grated rind of one-half orange until fragrant.
Step 2: Prepare the Applesauce
- If making applesauce from scratch, cook McIntosh apples or Stark’s Delicious apples separately. Add 1 cup water (or as desired for consistency) and one-half teaspoon cinnamon to the apples, cooking on a low flame until they are soft, tender, and easily mashed.
Step 3: Cool and Combine
- Cool the cooked cranberries and the applesauce completely.
- Once cooled, mix the cranberry sauce and applesauce together until fully incorporated and smooth.
💡 Make-Ahead & Storage: Can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Flavors will deepen as it sits.
