Instructions
Step 1: Sauté Aromatics
- In a large skillet, melt the 3 tbsp butter over medium heat. Sauté the 3/4 cup chopped green pepper, 1 cup chopped onion, 1 clove finely cut garlic, and 1/2 cup diced celery until they are softened and fragrant.
Step 2: Simmer Sauce
- Add the 1 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, pinch of paprika, pinch of thyme, 1 small bay leaf, 1/2 tsp dried parsley, 1 tbsp sugar, optional red pepper, and 2 cups canned tomatoes to the skillet.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer gently for 15-18 minutes until the sauce has thickened slightly and the flavors are well blended.
Step 3: Add Shrimp and Serve
- Stir in the 1 lb large cooked shrimp and heat thoroughly until the shrimp is hot and fully warmed through.
- Serve immediately over 3 cups hot cooked rice.
