Instructions
Step 1: Preparing the Meat Mixture
- Crumble 1 lb. ground beef into a small amount of shortening in a pan and brown thoroughly until fully cooked.
- Add 1 large or 2 med. onions (chopped), 2 cans tomato sauce, 1 can water, garlic, green chili, salt, and pepper to taste. Simmer until flavors blend.
Step 2: Layering the Casserole
- Grate 1/2 lb. sharp cheese and break 1 pkg. tortillas into small pieces.
- In a greased 2 qt. casserole, place alternating layers of tortillas, meat mixture, and sprinkle with cheese until full and all ingredients are used, ensuring meat & cheese are on the very last top layer.
Step 3: Baking
