Instructions

Step 1: Prep and Brown the Meat

  1. Cut the 1/2 to 3/4 pound Round Steak into two portions.
  2. Coat the meat thoroughly with salt and pepper and a portion of the 2 tablespoons Flour.
  3. In a skillet, brown the meat in hot oil until golden brown on both sides, then place the browned meat in a shallow baking dish.

Step 2: Prepare the Sauce and Braise

  1. Blend any remaining 2 tablespoons Flour with the pan drippings left in the skillet.
  2. Add the 1 (8 ounce) can stewed tomatoes, 1/4 cup chopped celery, 1/4 cup chopped carrot, 1 tablespoon chopped onion, and 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce to the skillet.
  3. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture boils.
  4. Pour the hot sauce mixture evenly over the meat in the baking dish.
  5. Cover and bake at 325°F - 350°F for 2 hours, or until the meat is fork-tender and yields easily.

Step 3: Melt the Cheese and Serve

  1. Sprinkle the 2 tablespoons shredded Cheese over the tender meat.
  2. Return the baking dish to the oven just until the cheese melts and is bubbly.
