Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Meat Mixture
- Mix 1/2 cup evaporated milk with 1/4 cup bread crumbs in a mixing bowl.
- Beat in the next 5 ingredients (1 egg, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp dry mustard, 1/4 tsp pepper, and 1/3 cup minced onion).
- Mix in 1 lb ground beef thoroughly using a fork.
- Turn the mixture evenly into a 9” pie plate.
Step 2: Bake and Top
- Bake in a moderate oven at 350°F for 30 minutes until cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and cover the hot meat with cheese slices.
- Swirl mashed potatoes on top of the cheese; dot generously with butter.
- Place under the broiler until the butter is melted and the potato peaks are lightly browned and fragrant.
