Instructions

Step 1: Prep and Mix

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. In a large bowl, soak the 1 1/2 cups bread pieces in the 1 cup evaporated milk until soft and fluffy.
  3. Add the 2 large eggs, 2 1/2 pounds ground beef, 1/2 pound sausage, 1/2 cup carrot, 1/2 cup parsley, 1 teaspoon garlic salt, 1 teaspoon marjoram, 1/2 teaspoon thyme, 1/2 teaspoon basil, 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper. Mix well to combine.

Step 2: Bake the Meatloaves

  1. Divide the mixture evenly between two 8”x4” loaf pans.
  2. Top each loaf with 1 strip bacon and 2 tablespoons ketchup.
  3. Place the pans in the preheated oven and immediately lower the temperature to 325°F.
  4. Bake for 1 hour until fully cooked through and browned.
  5. Remove the meatloaves from the pans and place them on a warm platter. Let them stand for 10 minutes before slicing.

Step 3: Make the Sauce

  1. To make the sauce, pour the pan juices into a saucepan.
  2. Whisk in the 2 tablespoons flour until smooth.
  3. Add the 1 (10.75 ounce) can beef broth and bring the sauce to a simmer while whisking.
  4. Continue to cook until the sauce heats and thickens to a rich, smooth consistency. Thin with a little water if needed.
