Instructions

Step 1: Braise the Pork

  1. Brown 1 1/2 lb. lean pork strips in a small amount of hot fat in a large skillet or pot until golden brown on all sides.
  2. Add 1/2 cup water, cover, and simmer for about 1 hour until the pork is tender.

Step 2: Prepare the Sauce

  1. Drain the pineapple chunks, making sure to reserve all the syrup.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the 1/4 cup brown sugar and 2 T. cornstarch.
  3. Stir in the reserved pineapple syrup, 1/2 cup wine vinegar, 4 T. soy sauce, and 1/2 tsp. salt to create the sauce mixture.

Step 3: Simmer and Serve

  1. Pour the sauce mixture over the tender pork in the skillet, and cook and stir until the gravy thickens.
  2. Add the drained pineapple chunks, 1 small green pepper strips, and 1 cup onion slices.
  3. Cook for 2 to 3 more minutes, stirring constantly, until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  4. Serve hot over fluffy rice or chow mein noodles.
