Instructions

Step 1: Fruit Prep

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Place the 6 peeled and sliced apples or peaches into a greased 9-inch deep baking dish.
  3. If desired, sprinkle a little brown sugar and grated orange or lemon peel between the layers of fruit for enhanced flavor.

Step 2: Topping & Baking

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: 1 cup flour, 1 1/2 cups sugar, 1 tsp baking powder, and 1/4 tsp salt.
  2. Mix the 1 beaten egg into the dry ingredients until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  3. Sprinkle this crumbly mixture evenly over the top of the fruit.
  4. Pour the 1/3 cup melted butter evenly over the topping, then sprinkle generously with cinnamon and nutmeg.
  5. Bake at 350°F for 50 to 60 minutes until the top is a beautiful golden brown and the fruit is bubbling and tender.

💡 Make-Ahead & Storage: Can be assembled a few hours ahead and kept refrigerated before baking. Best served warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
