Instructions

Mixing and Shaping

  1. Cream together the 1 cup shortening, 1 cup white sugar, and 1 cup brown sugar in a large mixing bowl until smooth.
  2. Beat in the 2 eggs and 1 tsp vanilla until well combined.
  3. Fold in the 1 cup gum drops, 2 cups oatmeal, 2 cups flour, 1 cup coconut, 1 cup nuts, 1 tsp soda, and 1 tsp salt until a dough forms.
  4. Roll the dough into logs, wrap tightly, and chill in the refrigerator until firm.

Baking

  1. Preheat the oven and slice the chilled logs into uniform rounds.
  2. Place on a baking sheet and bake until golden brown around the edges and set in the center.
