Instructions

Step 1: Cake Batter

  1. Partially melt 1 bar German Chocolate over hot water, then remove and stir until completely smooth.
  2. Cream together 2 cups sugar and 1 cup shortening until light and fluffy.
  3. Add 4 eggs, 2 tsp vanilla extract, 2 tsp butter flavoring, and 1 cup buttermilk to the creamed mixture.
  4. Sift together 3 cups flour, 1/2 tsp baking soda, and 1 tsp salt, then incorporate into the wet ingredients.
  5. Blend in the melted 1 bar German Chocolate and mix well.

Step 2: Baking

  1. Pour the batter into a well-greased and floured 9-inch tube pan.
  2. Bake in a slow oven at 300°F for about 1 1/2 hours until a tester comes out clean.
  3. Remove from the pan while still hot and place under a tightly fitting cover until thoroughly cooled to retain moisture.

Step 3: Glaze

  1. Melt 1 bar German Chocolate and 1 tbsp shortening in 1/4 cup water over low heat.
  2. Stir in 1 cup powdered sugar, a pinch of salt, and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract until smooth and glossy.
