Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Chocolate Base

  1. Melt 6 oz chocolate chips in a double boiler.
  2. Add 1 tbsp sugar and 4 well-beaten egg yolks to the chocolate, stirring gradually until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool.

Step 2: Whip and Fold

  1. In a separate bowl, add 1 tbsp sugar to the 4 egg whites and beat until stiff peaks form.
  2. In another bowl, add 1 tsp sugar to the 1 cup whipped cream and whip until thickened.
  3. Gently fold the egg whites and whipped cream into the cooled chocolate mixture.

Step 3: Assembly and Chilling

  1. Place a layer of broken angel food cake in the bottom of a baking dish.
  2. Cover with a portion of the chocolate mixture.
  3. Repeat with a second layer of broken angel food cake and the remaining chocolate mixture, ensuring the cake is completely covered.
  4. Cover with waxed paper and chill for 24 hours.
  5. Cut into squares and garnish with additional whipped cream and walnut meats before serving.
