Instructions

Step 1: Making the Cake

  1. Mix 2 cups apples, 1 egg, and 1 cup sugar together in a bowl.
  2. Sift 1 cup flour, 1 tsp soda, 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and dash salt together, then add to the apple mixture.
  3. Add 1/2 cup nut meats and stir well.
  4. Pour the batter into an ungreased 9x9 pan and bake at 350°F for 40 min until golden and cooked through.

Step 2: Making the Topping

  1. In a saucepan, mix 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/3 cup white sugar, 2 tbsp cornstarch, 1 cup water, 1 tsp vanilla, and 1/2 cup butter.
  2. Stir and cook over low flame until thick.
  3. Pour the hot topping over the hot cake immediately when removed from the oven.
