Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Apple Base

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, toss together the 2 cups thinly sliced fresh apples, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, and 1 tbsp flour until the fruit is evenly coated.
  3. Spread the spiced apple mixture evenly into the bottom of a 1 pastry-lined pie pan.

Step 2: Blend and Pour Custard

  1. Using a blender or electric mixer, whip together the remaining filling ingredients: 1 cup unsweetened applesauce, 1 cup milk, 2 tsp vanilla extract, 3 eggs, and 1/4 cup flour until completely smooth and slightly frothy.
  2. Gently pour the custard mixture into the pie pan directly over the arranged sliced apples.

Step 3: Bake and Cool

  1. Bake the pie in the preheated oven at 400°F for 10 minutes.
  2. Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F and continue baking for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the custard has set in the center and is beautifully golden brown.
  3. Remove from the oven and cool completely on a wire rack. Store refrigerated before serving.
