Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Batter

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease your cookie sheets.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the 1 cup butter and 1 1/2 cups sugar together with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the 3 eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. In a small cup, dissolve the 1 tsp baking soda in the 1 Tbsp hot water. Add this, along with the 1 tsp vanilla, to the creamed mixture.

Step 2: Combine and Bake

  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the 3 cups flour and 1 tsp baking powder.
  2. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  3. By hand, stir in the 1 cup walnuts and 1 cup raisins.
  4. Drop the dough by rounded teaspoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheets and bake for 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned and the centers are set.
