Instructions

Step 1: Melt and Cook the Base

  1. Break the dark chocolate bar into pieces and melt it in a medium saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth.

Step 2: Thicken the Filling

  1. Add the entire 1 can sweetened condensed milk to the melted chocolate.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and becomes ‘lumpy’ or very thick.

Step 3: Smooth and Pour

  1. As soon as the mixture thickens, remove the saucepan from the heat and immediately pour in the 1/2 cup tap water.
  2. Stir the mixture vigorously until it becomes completely smooth and silky.
  3. Pour the smooth chocolate filling into the pre-baked 9-inch baked pie shell and spread evenly.

Step 4: Chill and Serve

  1. Chill the pie in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or until the filling is completely set.
  2. Top with whipped cream and extra dark chocolate shavings before serving, if desired, until presentation is complete.
