Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Batter

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease an 8-inch square pan.
  2. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup raisins and 1/4 cup Kahlua; let stand for 15 minutes.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter or margarine and 1 1/2 ounces unsweetened chocolate over low heat until smooth; remove from heat.
  4. Stir in 3/4 cup sugar and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla; let cool slightly.
  5. Beat in 2 large eggs, one at a time, until well incorporated.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1 1/2 teaspoons instant coffee granules.
  7. Add dry ingredients to the chocolate mixture, stirring until just combined.
  8. Fold in the raisin-Kahlua mixture and 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans.
  9. Spread batter into the pan and bake for 30 minutes.

Step 2: Frost and Finish

  1. Combine 1 1/3 cups powdered sugar, 1 dash salt, 2 teaspoons warm water, 1 teaspoon milk or cream, and 1/4 cup Kahlua in a small bowl until smooth.
  2. Let brownies cool for 15-20 minutes until firm to the touch.
  3. Spread the frosting over the warm brownies and let cool completely before cutting.
