Instructions

Step 1: Melt and Prepare

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a small saucepan, melt the ⅔ cup Nestle’s butterscotch morsels with the ¼ cup water over low heat. Stir until smooth and set aside to cool.

Step 2: Mix the Batter

  1. In a separate bowl, sift together the 2 ¼ cups flour, 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp baking powder, and 1 tsp baking soda.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the ½ cup shortening and 1 ¼ cups sugar together with an electric mixer.
  3. Add the 3 unbeaten eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Blend in the cooled butterscotch mixture until fully incorporated.

Step 3: Combine and Bake

  1. Alternately add the dry ingredients and the 1 cup milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  2. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the edges are golden brown.
