Instructions

Step 1: Prepare and Mix

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and grease your cookie sheets.
  2. In a large bowl, blend the 1 cup shortening, 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp cloves, 1/4 cup buttermilk, and 2 eggs together with an electric mixer until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the 1 1/3 cups flour and 3/4 tsp baking soda.
  4. Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and beat until smooth.
  5. By hand, stir in the 1 1/2 cups oats, 1 cup nuts, and 1 cup raisins.

Step 2: Bake

  1. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto the greased cookie sheets.
  2. Bake for 15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are set.
