Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Crust

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 13x9x2 inch pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 2 cups flour, 2 cups oats, 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, 1 tsp baking soda, and 1/2 tsp salt.
  3. Stir in 1 cup margarine and 1 egg until the mixture is crumbly.
  4. Press half of the mixture into the pan and bake for 10 minutes.

Step 2: Prepare Caramel and Assemble

  1. Melt 14 oz caramel candies with 1/3 cup milk in a saucepan over low heat until smooth.
  2. Remove crust from oven; sprinkle with 6 oz chocolate chips and 1 cup walnuts.
  3. Drizzle the caramel mixture over the top and sprinkle with the remaining crumbly oat mixture.

Step 3: Final Bake

  1. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the topping is golden brown and fragrant.
  2. Cool completely before cutting into bars.
