Instructions

Step 1: Prepare and Cream

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and grease your cookie sheets.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the 3/4 cup shortening and 1 cup brown sugar together with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in the 2 eggs one at a time.

Step 2: Combine Dry Ingredients

  1. In a separate medium bowl, sift or whisk together the 1 cup flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tsp cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp nutmeg.

Step 3: Mix and Bake

  1. On low speed, add half of the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture and mix.
  2. Beat in the 1/3 cup milk until combined, then add the remaining dry ingredients and mix well.
  3. By hand, stir in the 3 cups oats and 1 cup raisins.
  4. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheets.
  5. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are set.
