Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- Preheat your oven to 375°F.
- In a large bowl, cream the 3/4 cup shortening and 1 cup sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the 2 eggs, 2 tbsp milk, and 1 tsp vanilla until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the 2 1/4 cups flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda, and 1/2 tsp salt.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the creamed ingredients, mixing until a stiff dough forms.
- Fold in the 1 cup pecans, 1 cup dates, and 1/3 cup maraschino cherries by hand.
Step 2: Shape and Bake
- Place the 2-3 cups crushed corn flakes into a shallow bowl.
- Shape level tablespoons of dough into balls and roll each in the corn flakes until completely coated.
