Instructions

Step 1: Prepare and Rise the Dough

  1. Prepare the 1 box hot roll mix according to the package directions, using the specified amount of warm water and 1 egg.
  2. Place the dough in a pre-warmed, greased bowl.
  3. Wring out a hot, damp cloth and place it over the top of the bowl.
  4. Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free spot until it has doubled in size, about 1 hour.

Step 2: Shape and Fill

  1. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
  2. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Spread the 1 can poppy seed filling evenly over the entire surface of the dough.
  4. Roll up the dough tightly, jelly-roll style.

Step 3: Bake

  1. Place the roll on a baking sheet, shaping it into a horseshoe or leaving it straight.
  2. Brush the top of the roll with melted butter.
  3. Bake according to the hot roll mix package directions (typically around 375°F for 20-25 minutes), until the roll is golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Let cool completely before slicing.

💡 Make-Ahead & Storage: Store the baked and cooled roll wrapped tightly in plastic wrap at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 1 month.
