Instructions
Step 1: Combine and Simmer
- To a medium saucepan, add the 1 qt. pure water, 16 black peppercorns, seeds from 16 cardamom pods, 16 whole cloves, 6 slices fresh ginger root, and 5 small sticks cinnamon.
- Bring the mixture to a rolling boil until bubbling vigorously.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 20 minutes until the spices are deeply infused and fragrant.
Step 2: Strain and Serve
- Optional: If you’d like a caffeinated version, stir in the 1 tsp black tea during the last few minutes of simmering.
- Carefully strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve directly into mugs.
- Serve the tea plain, or stir in honey, lemon juice, milk, or cream to your liking until well combined.
