Instructions

Step 1: Make the Batter

  1. Separate the 6 eggs. In a large, clean bowl, begin beating the egg whites with an electric mixer until frothy.
  2. Add a pinch of cream of tartar and continue beating until soft peaks form.
  3. Gradually add the 2 ½ cups powdered sugar and beat until the meringue is stiff, glossy peaks form.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks for 5-10 minutes until they are thick and lemon-colored.
  5. Gently fold the beaten egg yolks into the stiff egg white mixture until just combined.
  6. Fold in the ½ tsp cinnamon, ½ tsp allspice, and ¼ tsp cloves until fully incorporated.

Step 2: Serve the Drink

  1. For each drink, place 2 heaping tablespoons of the Tom and Jerry batter into a mug.
  2. Add 1.5 ounces of brandy or dark rum.
  3. Fill the rest of the mug with hot milk, stirring constantly until the drink is smooth, frothy, and thoroughly combined.
  4. Garnish with a sprinkle of freshly grated nutmeg and serve immediately until warm and comforting.
