Instructions
Preparation and Assembly
- Position an oven rack about 4-5 inches from the broiler and preheat the broiler.
- Remove the crusts from the 8–10 slices white bread slices. Cut the bread into small decorative shapes, such as rounds, squares, or triangles, using a knife or cookie cutters.
- Arrange the bread shapes on a baking sheet. Top each piece with a small slice of 4 oz cold meats or a piece of cooked shrimp.
- In a small bowl, thoroughly combine the 1 cup mayonnaise and 1/2 cup shredded cheese.
- Spread a layer of the cheese and mayonnaise mixture over each canapé, making sure to cover the toppings completely to the edges of the bread.
Broiling
- Place the baking sheet under the preheated broiler. Watch very carefully and broil for 2–4 minutes, or just until the topping is golden brown and bubbly. They can burn quickly!
- Remove from the oven and serve immediately while hot.
💡 Make-Ahead & Storage: These canapés are best assembled and broiled just before serving. You can prep the bread shapes and cheese mixture a few hours ahead and store them separately in the refrigerator.
