For the Marinade:
CupSoy Sauce
CupBrown Sugar or Honey
One TablespoonSesame Oil
Two ClovesGarlic, minced
One TeaspoonGinger, grated

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the marinade ingredients: soy sauce, brown sugar or honey, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
  2. Add the thinly sliced pork or beef to the marinade, ensuring it is well coated. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Heat a sufficient amount of oil for deep frying in a deep pot or wok to 350-375°F (175-190°C).
  4. Carefully remove the meat from the marinade, allowing excess to drip off.
  5. Deep fry the meat in batches for 1-2 minutes, or until cooked through and slightly crisped. Do not overcrowd the pot.
  6. Remove the cooked meat with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve immediately, for example, with rice and steamed vegetables.

Note

  • Curry Version: Instead of the teriyaki-style marinade, season the pork or beef with onion and curry powder before cooking.
  • Sweet Version 1 (Filled & Fried): Create a sweet filling, wrap the meat around it, and then deep fry.
  • Sweet Version 2 (Glazed & Fried): Leave the meat flat, deep fry it, and then cover it with a glaze and sprinkle with shredded nuts.
  • Soup Version: Parboil the pork or beef, then add it to chicken broth with onions and ham or chicken to create a soup.
