| One Pound | Pork or Beef, thinly sliced |
| For the Marinade: | |
| Cup | Soy Sauce |
| Cup | Brown Sugar or Honey |
| One Tablespoon | Sesame Oil |
| Two Cloves | Garlic, minced |
| One Teaspoon | Ginger, grated |
| As Needed | Oil for deep frying |
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine the marinade ingredients: soy sauce, brown sugar or honey, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
- Add the thinly sliced pork or beef to the marinade, ensuring it is well coated. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- Heat a sufficient amount of oil for deep frying in a deep pot or wok to 350-375°F (175-190°C).
- Carefully remove the meat from the marinade, allowing excess to drip off.
- Deep fry the meat in batches for 1-2 minutes, or until cooked through and slightly crisped. Do not overcrowd the pot.
- Remove the cooked meat with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Serve immediately, for example, with rice and steamed vegetables.
Note
- Curry Version: Instead of the teriyaki-style marinade, season the pork or beef with onion and curry powder before cooking.
- Sweet Version 1 (Filled & Fried): Create a sweet filling, wrap the meat around it, and then deep fry.
- Sweet Version 2 (Glazed & Fried): Leave the meat flat, deep fry it, and then cover it with a glaze and sprinkle with shredded nuts.
- Soup Version: Parboil the pork or beef, then add it to chicken broth with onions and ham or chicken to create a soup.
