Instructions

Step 1: First Bake

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. Prepare the 1 package German Chocolate Cake Mix according to the package directions.
  3. Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  4. Bake this first layer for 15 minutes until slightly set.

Step 2: Caramel Filling and Assembly

  1. While the cake is baking, combine the 1 lb. Caramels and 1 can (5 oz) Evaporated Milk in a saucepan. Melt over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.
  2. Once the first layer is done, remove it from the oven. Pour the hot caramel mixture evenly over the cake.
  3. Sprinkle the 1 cup Chocolate Chips and 1 cup Pecans over the caramel layer.
  4. Carefully spoon the remaining cake batter over the top, spreading it to cover the caramel and nuts.

Step 3: Final Bake and Cooling

  1. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the top cake layer comes out clean.
  2. Let the cake cool completely in the pan before slicing until set and firm.
