Instructions

  1. Combine semi-sweet chocolate and two tablespoons of water in a heavy pan over low flame.
  2. Stir occasionally until the chocolate is melted.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Gradually stir in three egg yolks, one at a time.
  5. Add one cube of butter (cut into small pieces) to the chocolate mixture and stir until melted and smooth.
  6. Gently fold in three stiffly beaten egg whites.
  7. Pour the mousse into a well-buttered mold or individual glasses.
  8. Chill until firm.
  9. Serve with melted vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.
