1 1/2 CupsBrown Sugar, packed
1Egg
2 CupsFlour
1 tspBaking Soda
1/2 tspSalt
1/2 CupMilk
1 CupChopped Apples (peeled, cored, & diced)
1 CupRaisins
1 CupChopped Nuts
OptionalSpices (e.g., ½ tsp cinnamon, ¼ tsp nutmeg)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F. Grease your cookie sheets.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the shortening and brown sugar together with an electric mixer. Beat in the egg.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt (and any optional spices).
  4. Add half of the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture and blend well.
  5. Stir in the milk.
  6. Add the remaining dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  7. By hand, fold in the chopped apples, raisins, and nuts.
  8. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheets.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
