1/2 cupButter, melted
1 cupSugar
2Eggs
3/4 cupAll-Purpose Flour
1/2 teaspoonBaking Powder
1/8 teaspoonSalt
1 cupChopped Nuts (walnuts or pecans recommended)
1 cupChopped Dates

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease and flour an 8x8 or 9x9 inch square baking pan.
  2. In a small bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a larger bowl, beat the melted butter, sugar, and eggs together until well combined.
  4. Add the sifted dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until just incorporated.
  5. Fold in the chopped nuts and dates.
  6. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan.
  7. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the pan cool completely on a wire rack before cutting into bars.

Note

The recipe notes that the finished “cake will always be a little moist.” No oven temperature was specified, so a standard 350°F has been suggested.
