Instructions

  1. Preparation: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. Make the Streusel: In a large bowl, combine the flour, ⅔ cup sugar, crushed corn flakes, and nuts.
  3. Cut in the 4 ounces of cubed cold butter with a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture is crumbly.
  4. Reserve about ⅓ of this mixture for the topping. Press the remaining ⅔ firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form a crust.
  5. Make the Filling: In a medium saucepan, combine the 12 ounces of butter, 2 ¼ cups of sugar, cornstarch, and corn syrup.
  6. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a boil and thickens.
