A classic and incredibly addictive recipe from Molly for saltine toffee, also known as “Christmas Crack.” Salty crackers are covered in a boiled butter and sugar toffee, baked, and then topped with melted chocolate and pecans.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a cookie sheet (jelly roll pan) completely with foil, making sure the foil goes up the sides.
  2. Arrange a single layer of saltine crackers on the foil, salt-side up.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine the butter and brown sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then boil for exactly 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Immediately pour the hot toffee mixture over the saltines and spread it evenly to cover all the crackers.
  5. Bake for 8 minutes.
  6. Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee. Let them sit for 3-5 minutes to melt.
  7. Use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate into a smooth, even layer.
  8. Sprinkle the chopped pecans over the top.
  9. Chill in the refrigerator until the chocolate is completely firm.
  10. Once firm, break the toffee into irregular pieces. Store in an airtight container.
