Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- In an ungreased 9x9 inch cake pan, sift or whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa, salt, and baking soda.
- Using the back of a spoon, make three depressions or “dents” in the dry ingredients.
- Pour the vinegar into the first dent, the vanilla into the second, and the salad oil into the third.
- Pour the 1 cup of cold water over everything.
- Mix with a fork directly in the pan until the batter is smooth and well-combined.
- Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool and serve plain or with your favorite frosting.
