Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x13 inch pan.
- In a bowl, mix the dry German chocolate cake mix, 2/3 cup of evaporated milk, and the melted butter. The mixture will be a thick batter.
- Pour half of this batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly to form the bottom crust.
- Bake for 15 minutes.
- While the first layer is baking, combine the unwrapped caramels and 1/3 cup of evaporated milk in a saucepan. Heat on low, stirring frequently, until the caramels are completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Pour the melted caramel mixture over the baked cake layer.
- Sprinkle the 1 cup of chocolate chips and 1 cup of nuts over the caramel.
- Carefully drop spoonfuls of the remaining half of the batter over the top and gently spread to cover the filling.
- Return to the oven and bake for another 20 minutes, or until the top layer is cooked through.
- Let cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
