Recipe
| Measurements | Ingredients |
|---|---|
| ½ Gallon (2 litres) | Red Wine |
| Zest of 1 | Orange |
| 5-6 | Whole Cloves |
| 1 tsp | Cardamom Seeds |
| 2-3 | Cinnamon Sticks |
| 3-4 slices | Ginger |
| ¾ cup, to taste | Sugar |
| To taste (optional) | Vodka |
| For Serving | |
| As needed | Raisins & Almonds |
Instructions
- In a large pot or bowl, combine the half gallon of red wine with the orange peelings (use a vegetable peeler to get wide strips of zest without the white pith), cloves, ginger slices, cardamom seeds, and cinnamon sticks.
- Cover and let the mixture soak at room temperature overnight to infuse the spices into the wine.
- The next day, pour the mixture into a large pot (if not already in one) and place it over medium-low heat.
- Gently bring the wine almost to a boil, but do not let it fully boil, as this will cook off the alcohol. Let it steep at a hot, steaming temperature for about 20-30 minutes.
- Stir in the sugar until it dissolves completely. Taste and add more if you prefer it sweeter.
- If you want a stronger drink, “spike” it with vodka now, stirring it in just before serving.
- To serve, place a small spoonful of raisins and almonds into each mug and ladle the hot Glögg over them.
